Kinetic
Acupuncture
The
method of Kinetic Acupuncture® therapy was described by Dr. Vasco
Senna-Fernandes and by Dr. Daisy L. M. França since January 2000 form
“Hualong - Centro Medico de Acupuntura, RJ”; tested in the
“Clinical Research Department of Academia Brasileira de Arte e Ciência
Oriental (ABACO)”,RJ; and published in Brazil by the “Fisioterapia
Brasil”, in RJ, 2003; and internationally by “Medical Acupuncture
Web Page” in 2005.
Kinetic
Acupuncture® therapy is considered as a method of "rehabilitation-art"
never ever described before in Brazil or other parts of the world. Since
this systematic method consists of a multidisciplinary practice that
combine both acupuncture (scalp acupuncture) and physical
therapy rehabilitation
techniques
(manual
therapy, kinesiotherapy or therapeutic exercises) for musculoskeletal
disorders treatment, which can be performed simultaneously.
Kinetic Acupuncture® therapy is
based on synergism of acupuncture and rehabilitation
methods since
acupuncture improves local blood circulation and muscle relaxation, and
relieves of pain. It is performed in three phases: Pre-Kinetic, Kinetic
and Post-Kinetic. (1) In the Pre-Kinetic phase, needles are inserted in body points (traditional
acupuncture) and in scalp points (scalp acupuncture) according to the
“Biao-Li” (symptom and root) theory. Since the scalp points are
mainly used to reduce pain symptoms and muscle relaxation.
It aims to prepare the musculoskeletal system and to facilitate
the response to the physiotherapy by interrupting pain-spasm-pain cycle.
(2) In the Kinetic phase,
scalp acupuncture is maintained while selected group of
physiotherapeutic exercises and manual therapy are performed
simultaneously. It aims to promote synergism to restore mobility. (3) In
the Post-Kinetic phase, placing
mustard seeds on the ear acupoints of greatest sensitivity just after
physiotherapy can maintain acupuncture stimulation for hours to weeks.
